Envy

This image represents the sin ‘Envy’.

The sin ‘Envy’ can be described as those that resent another for having something they feel themselves to lack or as a desire to deprive other men of theirs.

This piece was created using imagery that connects to the emotions evoked rather than the physical manifestations of the sin. Using barbed wire to represent the restrictiveness and painful mindsets the individual creates for themselves when indulging the sin, the colour green for its connection to the metaphor ‘green with envy’ and creating a focal point on the eye by simplifying and inverting the colour as envy is most often experienced through sight.
